Fun facts about transit courtesy of @MartinGsq:

  • Fuel prices are at a record high and still rising due to volatile oil prices. Public transport offers mega cost savings! #TransitThursday
  • Traffic fumes are a major source of pollution. Modern buses use biodiesel, CNG or hybrid drive to reduce emissions. #TransitThursday Research shows that 30 mins brisk walking per day brings a range of health benefits. Walking to/from bus stops counts too! #TransitThursday
  • Reading helps cognitive function, concentration, sleep quality and reduces stress. Travel time doesn’t have to be downtime! #TransitThursday
  • Taking public transport saves money on fuel, reduces CO2 emissions, combats congestion and helps your health!

Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s #TransitThursday!

I hope you’ve discovered new ways to spend your time waiting for your bus, train or ferry! The important message from this week’s celebration of transit is to recognize just how much time transit gives you back in your day; enjoy it!

Today’s #TransitThursdy topic:

How do you spend your time waiting for train/bus?

It’s Thursday! You know what that means… it’s time for #TransitThursday

This week, at the request of @CCTgirl, we are showing our love for transit in the form of a haiku. If you don’t know what a haiku is, click here for the wiki definition. Basically, it’s a short poem using the form of 5-7-5 syllables.

James Willamor’s photos of the SPRINTER hybrid bus (CATS’ limited stop service to the Charlotte Douglas Airport) inspired me to write my first haiku:

@mamakoid: Headed to airport? SPRINTER hybrid bus takes you. Be green ride transit!

“Begin at the beginning..and go on till you come to the end: then stop”

I had a lot of time to think while I was sick at home for two days.

You know, the only thing I hate more than daytime TV is being home sick; having to stare at a messy house, but not having the energy to do anything about the mess is so frustrating!

Instead of attempting to clean or watch the soaps, I thought… A LOT!

I thought a lot about work. I must have thought about work so much that at one point after falling asleep, I woke up in a cold sweat with an impending feeling of doom. That prompted me to email my supervisor a 2 page email from my iPhone (Ouch! Sore thumbs!) about my concerns for one of the station plans – because I had a nightmare about its design. #pathetic

I tried to shun away from thinking about work for a bit, and so I thought about the blog idea (OK- so I didn’t totally shun away from work, but close enough!)

So, I thought to myself, from where should I begin my blog?

An old Alice in Wonderland quote came to mind:

“Begin at the beginning..and go on till you come to the end: then stop.” ~Lewis Carroll

So this is where I begin my blog, with a 1982 Transit System Route Map.

SIDEBAR: A Raleigh CAT Bus Route Map would have probably been more fitting, but since this is all I have in my collection that fits the bill… it’ll have to do.
